Although vibrant and fresh, the palate also has fruit purity and concentration making this a serious example of the genre. The wine is well balanced, with a keen note of acidity running the length of its core, and a clean, delightful flurry of flavour on the finish. The nose explodes with fresh aromas of sliced strawberries, and carries a lightly herbal note often associated with Cabernet Sauvignon. As has become the Mulderbosch House style, our 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé is delicately coloured, with subtle hues of pink and a touch of copper.
Region: Coastal Region
Grape Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Alc. 12,5% vol.
Residual Sugar: 4.5g/l
Total Acidity: 5.8g/l
pH: 3.46
Method: Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards are managed specifically with the idea of rosé production in mind. Early picking dates result in naturally high levels of acidity and a bright spectrum of fruit flavours ideal in rosé style wines. Once pressed, the juice is handled as per Sauvignon Blanc, i.e. cool fermentation with aromatic yeasts to heighten the vibrant, zesty aromas and fresh mineral palate. Crucial to this style of rosé is early bottling in order to preserve the wine’s inherent freshness.

The palate has lively acidity, balanced by a firm, pithy texture central to Chenin Blanc’s character. There are unmistakable citrus notes, offset by creamy lees making this a deliciously moreish wine. The wine is bright in appearance, with aromas of citrus rind and ripe apricots, and lovely subtle oak spice. 25% of the 2019 vintage fermented in a combination of 300L French Oak barrels and 1500L Foudres, the remaining 75% in stainless steel tanks.
Both components rested for 6 months on lees before bottling preparations began.
Region: Coastal Region
Grape Variety: Chenin Blanc
Alc. 13,0% vol.
Residual Sugar: 2.1g/l
Total Acidity: 6.6g/l
pH: 3.38
Method: As has become one of the signatures of Mulderbosch winemaking, we began the 2019 harvest as early as possible in order to harness the natural acidity that is so central to the character and freshness of Chenin Blanc. Possibly due to the accumulated stress of the recent drought conditions, the ripening curve this year was very even-paced. As a result, we found good ripe flavours in the grapes at high natural levels of acidity, and this translated to the bottled wine.

Even so, the 2018 vintage is a ripe styled Sauvignon Blanc with plenty of tropical fruit on the nose and a palate with pronounced green fig flavours.

Vanilla pod and fresh custard are some of the comforting aromas that greet the nose, lifted by ripe fruit notes of sliced pineapple and papaya. With a distinctive golden hue, the wine appears rich and inviting. A refined chalky edge gives the palate cut, offset by rich and creamy weight on the mid-palate. The wine’s final length is marked by a citrus zest note that provides a long and rising terminal.
A third of the wine was fermented in 300L French Oak barrels whilst the remainder was fermented in stainless steel tanks. After racking off fermentation lees the wines matured for 6 months before being assembled for bottling.

Method: Vintage 2018 was marked by hot and dry conditions throughout the Cape. More so than ever before, the proximity of vineyards to the Atlantic Ocean played a crucial role in mitigating these challenging vintage conditions. Given the location of our vineyards overlooking False Bay, and on the elevated slopes of the Bottelary Hills we were able to produce a fantastic Chardonnay that displays our signature Mulderbosch freshness with an element of opulence often ascribed to warmer vintages.

A pronounced cassis aroma characterizes the first nose, but this is followed by dried figs, dates and hints of clove. This initial wave of fruit yields to a subtle forest-floor quality that hints at a classically styled wine. The palate entry is soft and displays a fine chalky texture. Fruit aromas apparent on the nose follow onto the palate as fleshy ripe flavours but find balance with an earthy, savoury character, maintaining the wine’s poise. A classic blend of noble red varieties, the wine displays both serious structure and delightful fruit making it approachable in it’s youth, but undoubtedly worthy of cellaring, where it will gain further dimension with age.

Barrel Ageing: 16 months in French oak barriques, 30% in new and the remainder in 2nd and 3rd fill French oak barriques.
Method: After rigorous selection of all five Bordeaux varieties from some of the finest vineyards in Stellenbosch, we have the option of sorting grapes on arrival before destemming begins. The fermentation process is initiated by naturally occurring yeast, and finished by a selected strain, added during the course of fermentation. Gentle extraction and long maceration time are the hallmarks of the winemaking style, followed by barrel maturation.

Deeply coloured, wonderfully dense yet with a vibrant rim showing the wine has life.
The initial nose is one of subtle sandalwood spice and dried figs, but almost immediately a wonderful perfume of Turkish delight becomes evident. It is certainly ripe in style, but retains an austere note that reminds one this is indeed classic Cabernet Franc.
Tasted in March of 2017, the wine is unmistakably youthful, with strident tannins that will take some time to settle down. The palate has great length, a core of bright red fruit, and abounds in subtle savoury notes. Cellared correctly, the wine will certainly improve in complexity and character with age.
Region: Stellenbosch
Grape Varieties: 100% Cabernet Franc
Alc. 13,5% vol.
Residual Sugar: 2.6g/l
Total Acidity: 4.8g/l

Barrel Ageing: 20 months in French oak
Method: Cabernet Franc thrives on the free draining ‘koffieklip’ soils here at Mulderbosch Vineyards on the Southern slopes of the Stellenbosch Kloof, 12-odd kilometres from False Bay. We’ve been carefully assessing one particular vineyard on Mulderbosch for consistent quality worthy of a single vineyard bottling.
Block 9B. Winemaking was kept simple, fermenting the grapes on skins for approximately 3 weeks prior to pressing and transferring to barrels after the completion of malo- lactic fermentation. Matured firstly in 2nd fill barrels, we rounded the wine off in new oak for the last few months, just to balance the wine’s generous structure. The wine was bottled late in 2016, spending a total of 20 months in barrel. It was bottled with no filtration or fining, so will likely develop a light sediment with time.
Maturation: Up to 15 years from date of vintage
